DEVELOPING SENSITIVITY. A Bible Study.

*Scripture references are in the New King James Version unless otherwise noted.

1. The things of God are more real than anything.

2. The problem is the more our senses are in tune to this realm, the less sensitive we become to things of the Spirit.

3. To be sensitive is to respond or react to something with ease.

4. Our senses are part of our soul; we can be sensitive to the promptings that come from our spirit, or we can be more sensitive to things of this world.

5. God does not lead us outwardly. He leads us inwardly.

Proverbs 20:27. The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

6. Our spirits are God’s flashlight.

7. He will illuminate His ways with our spirit.

8. God’s life in our spirit will give us understanding of His ways.

Job 32:8 (Amplified Bible.) But there is [a vital force] a spirit [of intelligence] in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives men understanding.

9. Since our senses are located in our souls, we need to develop our souls in those things that gratify the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8: 5 -14 (Amplified Bible.) For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit.

10. Those who are controlled by the flesh have their minds set on that which pleases the flesh.

11. Those that are controlled by the Holy Spirit have their minds set on that which gratifies the Holy Spirit.

12. The word “gratify” means to “please or satisfy.”

13. If we want to be controlled by the Holy Spirit, we need to set our mind on that which the Holy Spirit desires.

14. Name some things that please the Holy Spirit. Love Joy, Peace, Kindness, Self Control, Obedience, (Fruit of the Spirit.) Anything He leads His people to do.

Verse 6: Now the mind of the flesh, [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter], but the mind of the Holy Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever.]

15. A fleshly-minded person is a person who is more sensitive to the flesh because of his fleshly reasoning.

16. A fleshly-minded person is defined as a person whose mind and reasoning is without the Holy Spirit.

17. This is as a result of a lack of sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.

18. The mind that is controlled by the Holy Spirit is a mind that is controlled by life and peace.

19. The Bible tells us that God leads us by His Spirit, (which is life and peace.)

20. According to Ephesians Chapter 4:18, a person who walks like the World is alienated from the Life of God in their minds. (having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart.)

Verse 7: [That is] because the mind of the flesh, [with its carnal thoughts and purposes,] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God’s Law; indeed, it cannot.

21. A fleshly mind is a mind that is controlled by carnal (worldly) thinking and purposes.
22. A flesh-ruled mind lacks the ability to submit to God’s way of doing things.
23. Galatians Chapter 5:21 speaks about they that do the works of the flesh cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. (Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.)
